Monisha and the Stone Forest

As part of a previous research project (click here for the published project report) based in the Indian subcontinent, a story was written, published, and distributed about a village girl's adventures to understand a strange, natural material common in Bengal villages.  The story, produced in Bengali and English versions, informed children about petrified wood, the skill of scientific inquiry, and rural Bengali culture through this children's story. Written by Nigel Hughes and illustrated by Rati Basu, the book tells the story of a young girl's quest to understand how petrified wood was made by observing natural processes happening around her every day. Originally written to share scientific theory with rural Bengali children, the story also attempts to introduce readers to the mosaic of Bengal coltures and traditions.  (A similar project with mountain-top Myanmar fossils coming soon)
