IGCP Meetings

A major aim of UNESCO and the International Union for Geological Sciences (IUGS) in promoting the International Geoscience Program (IGCP) is to build:

"bridges between disciplines and between scientists, including young ones, with aims of stimulating cutting-edge research and sharing scientific knowledge for the benefit of all." - www.unesco.org

International conferences that bring together international experts, young scientists, students, and geoscientists specializing in local areas are crucial for developing a holistic view of equatorial Gondwanan geology at both the local and global scale as well as sharing valuable analytical methods and training the next generation of experts in the field.

At IGCP 668 meetings, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear, present, and discuss the latest research on Cambrian-Ordovician equatorial Gondwana and comparable earth-life conditions in other times/places.

  • See and explore key localities of the Sibumasu terrain and consider how they relate to other Gondwanan regions

  • Receive training in important research methodologies including global database systems.

  • Develop collaborations and new approaches to the problems your research addresses

IGCP 668 will feature a total of five meetings during its planned five-year duration:

  1. Thailand (Bangkok and Satun Geopark): November, 2018

  2. North American Paleontological Convention (NAPC) Riverside, CA: June, 2019

  3. Myanmar (N. Shan State): January, 2020

  4. Japan: 2021

  5. China (Baoshan, Yunnan Province): 2022

The IGCP 668 coordinators would like to thank the local organizations that help support and host our meetings. Thank you to Thailand's Department of Mineral Resources and to the Myanmar Geosciences Society. If you have connections with a geosciences community near one of our upcoming meetings, please consider offering your support.
